Much has changed over the last few years in travel industry. About 85% of travel is now booked on-line. There will probably always be niche market for the traditional travel agent by those who like extra hand holding or specialty bookings. However, there is a company called YTB International which sells travel through sites purchased by referring travel agents for a fee of $549 and $50 monthly upkeep. The buyers of the "travel agency in-a-box" receives 60% of the commission paid by the various suppliers. All of the YTB web sites look the same except the area for the name of the buyers choice and personal information such as name,e-mail,phone etc.
There is a Multi-Level Marketing aspect to the business if one wishes to work as a "Rep" for the company and sell to others that same "agency-in-a-box" on-line store. Reps do not have to pay any fee. If, however, one wishes to buy the on-line agency and work as a Rep that is an option.
I'm considering investing and would like to hear from anyone who has had experience with YTB Travel or any travel agents brick and mortar, etc. in the comments.
